Population structure and phylogeography of <i>Elymus mutabilis</i> and its genetic relationships with <i>E. transbaicalensis</i> (Poaceae)

Elymus mutabilis is a morphologically diverse species in the Poaceae family growing Eurasia from northern Europe to far east Russia and southwards central Asia. transbaicalensis occurs similar habitats considered closely related E. sometimes even referred as subspecies or synonym. Based on high similarity morphology habitat, molecular studies are needed establish whether can be two distinct species. Thus, objective of this study was diversity, relationships among populations phylogeographical structure using genotyping-by-sequencing (GBS). In total 68 individuals were sampled 18 collected Europe, Asia Russia, representing peripheral parts natural distribution The results reveal clear distinction between no introgression. phylogeographic follows geographical Populations southern Siberia together form clade separated Asia, indicating common ancestry latter. Phylogenetic analyses revealed radiation pattern founding followed by rapid dispersal.
